PNBRI officially launched its flagship report, “The Realities and Prospects of Sustainability among Oil Palm Smallholders in Malaysia", on 12 September 2025.

This landmark publication is the culmination of nearly two years of in-depth research, rigorous data collection, and stakeholder engagement across Malaysia — with a strong focus on independent oil palm smallholders.

The report synthesises insights from over 30 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) that produced more than 47.5 hours of verbatim transcripts, supplemented by 425 face-to-face survey responses from 11 Malaysian states. These include government agencies, plantation companies, NGOs, certification bodies, and smallholders themselves.

The launch marks a significant milestone in PNBRI’s mission to deliver evidence-based research that informs policy and industry practices. It also reflects the collaborative efforts of researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and smallholder communities in shaping a more inclusive and comprehensive narrative for Malaysia’s palm oil sector.
